The Catholic Bishops’ Conference in Sri Lanka (CBCSL) issuing a press release states that they are deeply concerned about the prevailing situation in the country. They say that everyone should keep in mind that if there is instability in the country, it is people who suffer.
The CBCSL states that they wish to appeal to all political parties to put aside their vested interests and abide by the Constitution of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka to resolve the conflict.
The country has suffered and enough blood has been shed and therefore we request all concerned to act with prudence and restraint for the sake of our country and people, stated the CBCSL.
The rule of law and democracy should prevail through whatever decisions that are taken by faithfully following the Constitution in this moment of crisis, they added.
According to CBCSL, what is important is neither staying in power nor coming into power but service of the people and the development of the country harnessing all resources and realizing the great potential found in the people and the natural resources in our beloved land.
The CBCSL further stated that they pray that wisdom and sanity will prevail.
