Water level in rivers in the South receding

The Irrigation Department says the water levels of the Nil Wala, Gin and Kalu rivers in the south are receding while there is still some flooding in the lower valleys of the rivers.

While there is slight flooding still in the low lying areas of Nil Wala River, water in Akuressa, Panadigama area is gradually decreasing.

There is still a minor flood situation in the lower valley of Gin Ganga, but the water level at the Baddegama water measurement station is steadily decreasing.

The water level at the Millakanda measurement station of the Kalu Ganga is also steadily declining.

The Irrigation Department says if the present fair weather conditions continue, the water level of the rivers will return to normal within the day, today and the flooding in the lo lying areas will recede.
