The Ceremonial Opening of the Second Session of the Eighth Parliament by the President Maithripala Sirisena will be held at 2.15 p.m. on Tuesday the 08th of May 2018.
Following the ceremonial opening the President will deliver the Policy Statement of the Government at the commencement of new session today. According to the current practice, the Policy Statement is neither debated nor put to the vote.
After his address, the President will adjourn the sitting.
The President by virtue of the powers vested in him by Article 70 of the Constitution prorogued the parliaments on 12th April 2018.
