Sri Lanka and Serbia exchanged ideas on strengthening the bilateral cooperation between the two countries in many fields when Serbia’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic met with Sri Lanka’s Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe at Temple Trees on Monday.
The Serbian Foreign Minister, recalling that as non-aligned nations Sri Lanka had a special relationship with Yugoslavia under the rule of the former Yugoslavian leader Marshal Tito, said Serbia as a state of the former Yugoslavia is expecting to revitalize the old bilateral relationship with Sri Lanka.
Prime Minister Wickremesinghe stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation between the two countries in many spheres and exchanged ideas with the Serbian Foreign Minister on the need and the opportunity to develop bilateral relations in private sector as well as in the state sector.
Accordingly, a visit of a Serbian business delegation will also be organized in the near future.
During his two-day visit, Dacic will meet with the top officials of the Sri Lankan government to strengthen the overall bilateral relations.
