The rent for the building rented to house the Regional Development and Wildlife Ministry of Minister Sarath Fonseka is Rs. 11.7 million per month, while a total of Rs. 702 million is required for the five year lease, the Sinhala weekly newspaper, Anidda has reported.
The media report states that an agreement was signed on June 5, 2016 to lease this privately owned building from Sino Lanka Properties (Pvt) Ltd. for the Regional Development Ministry.
According to the lease agreement, the lease period ends on May 31, 2021.
At the time the building was leased, Fonseka had served as the Regional Development Minister but after the Cabinet reshuffle, he was assigned the Wildlife portfolio as well. Accordingly, both ministries have now been amalgamated.
According to the report, although there is an office for the staff of the Wildlife Ministry on the 9th floor of Sethsiripaya, the staff has now been shifted to the private building in Rajagiriya.
