Gamini Senarath, two others further remanded until Nov. 21

A Sri Lankan court today further remanded the former president Mahinda Rajapaksa’s top aide Gamini Senarath and two others on charges of misappropriating state funds.

The Colombo Fort Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne remanded former President’s Chief of Staff and the other two accused of defrauding the state until November 21.

Gamini Senarath, and former Executive Director of Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation (SLIC) Piyadasa Kudabalage and Director General of the Samurdhi Development Department Neil Bandara Hapuhinna are accused of misusing government funds of 4 billion rupees.

The three accused are founding directors of Sino Lanka Hotels & Spa Private Limited which launched the Hyatt Regency project in Hambantota at a cost of Rs. 312.2 million without cabinet approval.
