Government to raise salaries and allowances in the judicial sector from 1st January 

Minister of Justice and Foreign Employment Thalatha Athukorala says steps will be taken to increase the salaries of all judges, and the officials of attorney General’s Department and Department of Legal Draftsman from January 01, 2018.

The government has taken this measure considering a recommendation made by the Sectoral Oversight Committee on Legal Affairs (anti-corruption) and Media.

The government has decided to present a proposal to the parliament to amend the salaries and allowances of Judges, and Legal Officers in Attorney General Department and Legal Draftsman’s Department from 2018 after considering the enormous responsibility they bear.

The need for revising the salaries and allowances paid to them has been discussed for a long time, considering the role and responsibilities of legal officers in the Attorney General’s Department and the Legal Draftsman’s Department.

The cabinet of ministers have given approval to present a proposal to the parliament to revise the salaries and allowances of Supreme Court judges, lower courts judges and officials of the Attorney General’s Department and the Legal Draftsman’s Department, effective from 1 January 2018.
