Digital Minister Namal Rajapaksa has requested authorities reconsider decision to ban social media in Sri Lanka.
Earlier today, Telecommunications Regulatory Commission confirmed that social media has been blocked following a request from Sri Lanka defence ministry.
“I will never condone the blocking of social media. The availability of VPN, just like I’m using now, makes such bans completely useless. I urge the authorities to think more progressively and reconsider this decision” Namal Rajapaksa tweeted.
Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa also condemns the social ban questioning President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
“Revolutions existed before Social Media and the current Social Media ban will do nothing to stop the tide of anger and disgust at you and your government @GotabayaR. If you are threatened by free speech, you are not fit to lead” Opposition Leader tweeted.
