New chairperson appointed for National Child Protection Authority

President Maithripala Sirisena has appointed Attorney-at-Law H. M. Aberathna as the new Chairman of the National Child Protection Authority. He is the 8th chairperson of the National Child Protection Authority.

Mr. Aberathna holds a law degree from the University of Colombo as well as a special degree in Development Studies from the same university.

Attorney Aberathna holds a Master’s Degree in Business Studies from the University of Colombo and a Master’s Degree in management from the Wayamba University.

He has also obtained Diploma in Business Management from the National Institute of Business Management and a Diploma in Youth Affairs from Chandigar University in India.

Attorney Aberathna has functioned as the Provincial Director of the National Youth Services Council, District Coordinator of the World University Service of Canada and the Chairman of the Institute of Post-Harvest Technology Sri Lanka.

He is also a Senior Lecturer in Wayamba University’s Management and Finance faculty and a director of the President’s Special Project of the Kurunegala District.

Mr. Aberathna, who was born and raised in Kurunegala district, said his life experience obtained through various challenges and proficiency gained on administrative and educational skills have helped to build the sensitive environment needed to resolve the children’s problems.

The new Chairman said his goal is to build a child friendly and safe environment for children through the vision and mission of the National Child Protection Authority.
