A Motion of No Confidence was filed and submitted to speaker Karu Jayasuriya against the Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government, Faizer Mustapha, by the Joint Opposition MPs today, November 23.
The motion states, at a time when the Elections Commission had been vested with the power to hold the Local Government Election and was in the process of doing so, the subject minister’s inability to hold the election has cast a deadly blow to the country’s democracy.
Since No Confidence could be placed upon the Minister, the motion proposes that he resigns from his position.
The Motion of No Confidence bears the signatures of thirteen Members of Parliament. They are Dinesh Gunewardena, Chamal Rajapaksa, Bandula Gunewardena, Ranjith de Zoysa, Roshan Ranasinghe, Wimalaweera Dissanayake, Padma Udayashantha, Udaya Gammanpila, Janaka Wakkumburu, Vijitha Berugoda, Dilum Amunugama, Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena and Sisira Jayakody.
