Railways Dept says urges employees to return to work

The Department of Railways says as railway services have been gazetted as an essential service, all employees should report to work today.

Railways General Manager S.M. Abeywickrama, issuing a comminique, stated that all engine operators, railway superintendents and other employees serving on contract basis will be considered to have resigned, if they do not report to work today.

The comminique added that an opportunity has been provided for all retired engine operators and railway superintendants to report for service.

The Department requests all retired railway personnel who wish to commit themselves towards continuing the railway service must immediately report to the Railway Headquarters.
