The United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) General Secretary Minister Mahinda Amaraweera says the 16 Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) ministers who voted for the no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe have pledged not to leave the party and will be dedicated to the party under any condition.
Addressing a function held in Weeraketiya yesterday (08), Minister Amaraweera said the SLFP leader, President Maithripala Sirisena’s intention is to strengthen the SLFP.
“During the no-confidence motion, we acted according to a decision to strengthen the party. We will not allow the UNP to act against the 16 ministers of our party. We will stand by our party members,” Minister Amaraweera said.
He said even at the SLFP Central Committee meeting tomorrow no decision will be taken except the collective decisions to work together and not divide the party.
The party that brought the no confidence motion against the Prime Minister transformed it to a motion against the government, he said.
“Our party does not take decisions that make the government feel uncomfortable,” the Minister said.
