SLMA informs president about crisis caused by escalating Covid-19 pandemic

In a letter addressed to Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, the Sri Lanka Medical Association (SLMA) warned that there has been a significant increase in the transmission of Covid-19 in the Western Province reaching an extremely serious point.

They further said that all intensive care beds and Covid-wards have reached full capacity and there are no beds for the new patients who are increasing in number daily, with no medical facilities for seriously ill Covid infected patients.

Stating that it will only take a short period of time for the Delta variant to spread from the Western Province to other less affected parts of the country, the SLMA called on the Government to take immediate measures to strengthen the current health system in order to deal with the ongoing pandemic.
