Speaker Karu Jayasuriya is of the view that the Chairman of the Election Commission should not retire from his post at this time and continue in his entire term.
In a statement, Speaker’s Media office said the Speaker as the Chairman of the Constitutional Council has been informed that the Chairman of the Election Commission Mahinda Deshapriya has made a request to the President to resign from his post.
Responding to this request as the Chairman of the Constitutional, the Speaker said his view is that Mr. Deshapriya should serve his full term as the Chairman of the Election Commission and not resign from his post at this time.
The Speaker commending the excellent service rendered by the Election Commission Chief, especially at the recent Presidential Elections, said the Chairman of the Election Commission, Mahinda Deshapriya’s direction will be very important to carry out the important reforms identified in the election process and to ensure that the decisive elections in the future will be conducted in an optimum manner.
