Sri Lanka Navy arrests 8 Indian fishermen poaching in Sri Lankan waters

Sri Lanka Navy said it has arrested eight Indian fishermen and seized their trawler this morning for allegedly crossing the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) and fishing in Sri Lankan waters.

A Fast Attack Craft attached to the Northern Naval Command, on routine patrol, apprehended the 8 Indian fishermen along with a fishing trawler for poaching in the Sri Lankan territorial waters northeast of Vettalakerni in the early hours of Sunday (05th November).

The arrested fishermen were brought to the naval base SLNS Uttara in Kankasanthurai and subsequently handed over to the Assistant Fisheries Director of Jaffna for legal action.

The seized trawler and fishing gear were retained at SLNS Elara in Karainagar.
