Sri Lanka Navy’s Offshore Patrol Vessel SLNS Sagara has left for Indonesia from the port of Trincomalee on Tuesday to attend the Multilateral Naval Exercise Komodo and International Fleet Review (IFR) 2018.
The 192- member crew of Sagara participating in MNEK 2018 includes 20 officers and 4 midshipmen.
A total of 40 warships from 35 countries is set to arrive at Lombok Strait, around Lembar Port in Indonesia to attend the 3rd Multilateral Naval Exercise Komodo (MNEK) 2018 that will be held on May 4 – 8, 2018.
Commander Eastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Niraja Attygalle, Flag Officer Commanding the Naval Fleet, Commodore Ananda Guruge and a group of senior naval officers were present on the occasion of the ship’s departure.
The Area Commander extended best wishes to the ship’s crew and its Commanding Officer who are expected to arrive at the port of Lembar in Indonesia on 04 May.
Activities at MNEK 2018 will include training on disaster handling, combating pirates and a medical capability program. In addition the event will feature 12 essential workshops, cultural performances, maritime exhibitions, Engineering Civic Action Projects (Encap) and Medical Civic Action Projects (Medcap).
Navies of 43 countries will be taking part in these events held as part of the biennial Indonesian Navy Exercise Komodo. It is estimated that the event will welcome around 4,000 guests.
