Sri Lanka's Law and Order and Southern Development Minister praised the tri-forces and police for their commitment to neutralize the tensions and swiftly bring the Gintota situation under control. The Law and Order Minister said in parliament today that the restive situation in Gintota was controlled as a result of the responsible actions taken by the police and armed forces. Sri Lankan Prime Minister visits restive southern coastal town hit by Buddhist-Muslim communal violence

Sri Lanka's Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe today (Nov 19) visited the southern coastal town of Gintota in Galle district where clashes between the Buddhist and Muslim communities erupted injuring four people and resulting in damages to properties. Meeting with the affected people, the Prime Minister said the police have been instructed to strictly enforce the law against the people inciting violence and damaging properties regardless of their status. The Prime Minister inspected several houses and shops damaged by the clashes and discussed the situation with both Sinhala and Muslim residents. A special discussion was held in Galle yesterday (Nov 18) between people in the Gintota area, security divisions, both Buddhist and Muslim religious leaders and people's representatives. The meeting was presided by Minister of Home Affairs Vajira Abeywardena. The occurrence of minor damages to properties at several places due to the clashes have been reported.
