Committee appointed to prevent recurrences of communal clashes

A special discussion was held in Galle yesterday (Nov 18) between people in the Gintota area, security divisions, both Buddhist and Muslim religious leaders and people’s representatives. The meeting was presided by Minister of Home Affairs Vajira Abeywardena.

The occurrence of minor damages to properties at several places due to the clashes have been reported. The attention was focused on the discussion to pay compensation to the affected.

A committee comprising religious leaders and people representatives have been appointed to prevent the recurrence of such communal clashes.

Minister Abeywardena said that the people of the country may think that the problem still exists because of imposing the night time curfew again. But the curfew has been imposed to strengthen the peace in the area, he assured.

President of the Galle District All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama Council Mohamed Moulavi and Venerable Baddegama Samitha Thera bot expressed opinions in this regard.
