CPSTL takes necessary steps to ensure an uninterrupted fuel supply

Sri Lanka's state owned fuel distributor Ceylon Petroleum Storage Terminals Limited (CPSTL) while condemning the recent threat by Ceylon Petroleum Bowser Owners Association to disrupt fuel distribution countrywide, said that it had taken swift and necessary steps to ensure an uninterrupted fuel supply by engaging independent bowser owners. The CPSTL in a media statement strongly condemned the action of the Ceylon Petroleum Bowser Owners Association, which recently threatened to disrupt countrywide transportation of fuel without negotiation with CPSTL. EXPOSED: Racket of mixing substandard oil with furnace oil

The raid unit of Ceylon Petroleum Storage Terminals Limited successfully exposed a racket where substandard oil is being sold instead of furnace oil released by the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation. A raid was carried out after information revealed that a bowser transporting furnace oil from Kolonnawa to a factory in Horana was diverted to Kirimetiyagara, Kadawatha where the furnace oil is being replaced. The racketeers replace the furnace oil with oil that is used and disposed by shipping lines.13,000 litres of furnace oil had thus been replaced. Six people were arrested and handed over to Kadawatha Police for investigations.

Petroleum authorities say distribution of petrol has been restored

Authorities say the distribution methods of petrol has been restored following the arrival of the vessel Nevaska Lady on November 8. Managing Director of the Ceylon Petroleum Storage Terminals Ltd, Sanjeewa Wijeratne said that petrol can be purchased from fuel stations in the regular manner. The petrol crisis transpired as the fuel, which was brought to the country by Lanka IOC, was rejected, as it did not meet quality standards. In this backdrop, long queues were seen at fuel station around the country, prompting a fuel crisis. The Ministry of Petroleum Resource Development says that adequate action will be taken against fuel stations which refused to sell diesel during the time when petrol was depleted. Over 1000 metric tonnes of petrol distributed to fuel stations countrywide: Petroleum authorities

The Ceylon Petroleum Storage Terminals Ltd said that 1,500 metric tonnes of petrol has been distributed to fuel stations countrywide. Director General, Sanjeewa Wijeratne, said the decision to distribute the 1,500 metric tonnes of petrol was taken to avoid a depletion of fuel. He added that the report on the stock of petrol which arrived in the country aboard the Lady Neveska Vesse, last night, will be released at 12 noon today.
