Navy officer arrested for abduction of 11 youths given Rs. 500,000 from a Navy account

A Sri Lankan court today remanded the former navy intelligence officer who was arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) on Monday in connection with the abduction and disappearance of 11 youths. Colombo Fort Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne ordered former Navy Lieutenant Commander Chandana Prasad Hettiarachchi to be remanded until the 29th of this month when he was produced before the court today. Hettiarachchi is the main suspect in the abduction and disappearance of 11 youths in Colombo and suburban areas during 2008-2009. Eleven boys including six international school students and five university students were abducted from Kotahena and Dehiwala areas to extort money from parents. Sri Lanka police seek public assistance in finding navy officer suspected in abduction of 11 youths

Sri Lanka Police Thursday sought public assistance to locate former Navy Lieutenant Commander Hettiarachchi Mudiyanselage Chandana Prasad Hettiarachchi aka 'Navy Sampath', who is a suspect in the case of disappearance of 11 youths in 2008 and 2009. Colombo Fort Magistrate has issued an open warrant to arrest the suspect Navy Sampath for alleged abduction, disappearance and killing of the 11 youths. Fort Magistrate Miss Lanka Jayaratne last month issued a red notice to arrest Prasad Chandana Hettiarachchi, who is currently absconding.
