The Group of 16 SLFP MPs who recently quit the government, is to meet with former President MP Mahinda Rajapaksa on Wednesday (23). SLFP MP Chandima Weerakkody told the media that the 16 MPs would meet with Rajapaksa on the 23rd evening. The cabinet ministerial portfolios vacated by the resignation of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) ministers of the unity government who voted for the no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Rani Wickremesinghe, will still be assigned to the party, a government source said. During the anticipated cabinet reshuffle the portfolios vacated by six SLFP cabinet ministers will be assigned to another group of SLFP ministers, the source said. UNP MPs want removal of six SLFP ministers

A group of UNP MPs have written to Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe requesting the immediate removal of six SLFP ministers from the Cabinet of Ministers. A letter signed by 33 UNP MPs was presented last night to the Prime Minister, following the vote on the no-confidence motion. The six SLFP ministers are S.B. Dissanayake, W.D.J. Seneviratne, Anura Priyadharshana Yapa, Susil Premajayantha, Chandima Weerakkody and Dayasiri Jayasekara.
