Stay order on CID probe on Ravi K dismissed

The Colombo Chief Magistrate today dissolved the stay order issued on the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) investigation of MP Ravi Karunanayake over allegedly providing false evidence to the Bond Commission. Magistrate Ranga Dissanayake allowed the CID to proceed with the investigations. President’s former Chief of Staff, former STC Chairman further remanded

The Colombo Chief Magistrate today extended the remand of two top Sri Lankan government officials who were arrested last month for accepting a bribe of Rs. 20 million and in remand custody since then. Colombo Chief Magistrate Ranga Dassanayake today furthered remanded President's former Chief of Staff I.H.K. Mahanama and former State Timber Corporation Chairman P. Dissanayake who were arrested for accepting a bribe worth Rs. 20 million from an Indian businessman until June 26. The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption arrested the two officials while accepting a bribe of Rs 20 million on 3rd May.

Gotabaya Rajapaksa requests that he be acquitted of all charges

The application forwarded by former defence secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa requesting to be acquitted of all charges against him was dismissed by the Colombo Chief Magistrate, today, November 17. According to the former defence secretary, he should be thus acquitted as the Director General of the Bribery Commission had filed charges against him “illegally.” Nineteen charges have been filed against eight suspects including former defence secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa. The charges include causing a loss of 1,140 million to the government through illegally maintaining an armoury under the Avant Guard company.

President’s former secretary to be summoned as witness in Bribery Commission case

An order to summon the president’s former secretary, P.B. Abeykoon, was given to the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption by the Colombo Chief Magistrate. The order was made as the former secretary to the president is a witness in a case filed against MP Johnston Fernando. This move is due to the Assets Declaration of Members of Parliament issued by P.B. Abeykoon during his tenure of office as the president’s secretary. The document was presented before court as evidence to the case. Asset declarations of parliamentarians available at the Presidential Secretariat are to be produced before court on an order made by Colombo Chief Magistrate, Lal Ranasinghe Bandara.
