Special train services to Kandy for Esala Perahera

Sri Lanka Railways has planned to commence special train services for the Esala Perahera of Temple of the Tooth Relic, Kandy. Accordingly, several special trains are scheduled to commute between Colombo Fort to Kandy from August 21 to August 25. One train will depart from Colombo Fort at 09.50 a.m. and reach Kandy by 01.15 p.m., and two other special trains are scheduled to commute from Kandy at 11.45 a.m. to Colombo Fort and Nawalapitiya. Two more trains are to depart from Colombo Fort at 07.05 a.m. and Kandy at 07 p.m. on August 26, stated Sri Lanka Railways.

Finance Minister invites striking railway employees to end the strike and come for discussions

Strongly condemning the trade union action taken by the Sri Lanka Railways employees yesterday severely inconveniencing the evening commuters, Finance and Media Minister Mangala Samaraweera urged the striking employees to end the strike and come for discussions. "I strongly condemn the strike action taken by the railway employees. End the strike before we sit down for discussions," he said making a brief media statement. ‘The One’ begins voyage in Colombo with US$ 500 mn investment

Construction of one of South Asia’s tallest buildings ‘The One’ is now in progress and it will see an investment that exceeds US $ 500 million. Construction of ‘The One’ commenced in September 2017 and Phase 1 is due to be completed in December 2021. The landmark project on a 4.3 acre land will be built at the Transworks House in Colombo Fort and is one of the biggest private sector invested projects. The project would comprise of three towers comprising two luxury hotels with a total of 473 keys, a luxury retail mall, a commercial office complex and 638 apartments making it one of the biggest development projects in the region. New measures have been introduced with the aim to facilitate the growing tourism industry which remains a vibrant sector. Sri Lanka's tourism arrivals are expected to increase by almost three fold to 4.5 million by 2020 as the country has much to offer given its natural beauty, heritage, cuisine, and culture. Northern railway line under repairs after derailment

Repairs commenced on the northern railway line after it was damaged due to a train derailment. A train which was traveling between Medawachchiya and Parasangaswewa, on the Northern Railway Line, was stalled since 8.03 p.m on Tuesday, November 14, owing to a derailment. According to the Railway Control Room, the ‘Rajarata Rajina’ which was travelling from Colombo – Fort to Vavuniya, derailed at around 9 p.m. on November 14. Three trains were delayed due to the derailment. One was to travel from Colombo Fort to Vauniya, and two other trains were to travel from Jaffna and Vauniya to Colombo Fort.
