Health Services Director General Dr. Anil Jasinghe has said the Influenza virus spreading in the South has been fully controlled. He has said that only seven persons have died from the Influenza virus so far and all media reports claiming a higher number of deaths are wrong. "People do not need to panic and the disease is at a controllable level," he said yesterday addressing a press conference held at the Government Information Department Auditorium in Colombo. DR Congo Ebola outbreak spreads to Mbandaka city

The Ebola outbreak in Congo has spread from the countryside into a city, prompting fears that the disease will be increasingly difficult to control. Two-day dengue prevention program in several districts from tomorrow

The Ministry of Health has decided to launch a special two-day dengue prevention program from Wednesday in several districts of the country to prevent the disease spreading. The program will be implemented in the districts of Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, Jaffna, Batticaloa and Kalmunai where dengue is more prevalent. Due to the recurring rains, there is a growing threat of dengue, the Health Ministry says and the special program will be implemented to prevent the mosquito-borne disease from spreading.
