Two airport hotels to be constructed near Mattala

The proposal to award two plots of land in the proximity of the Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport in Hambantota to construct and operate two airport hotels has been approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.

The Government said that although the Hambantota area where the Mattala Airport is located is a major tourist destination, only a few hotels are in operation at present.

It has been observed that it is advantageous to attract tourists by constructing two 04-star class hotels adjoining the airport.

The Government said two plots of land at the right side of the terminal building of the airport have been recognized as suitable for the purpose.

Accordingly, the Cabinet of Ministers has approved the proposition tabled by the Minister of Tourism to call for proposals from investors to construct the 02 proposed hotels.
