Two bowser trucks seized with substandard coconut oil

Two bowser trucks were seized in Dankotuwa transporting substandard coconut oil.

The Sri Lanka Standards Institute (SLSI) handed over the results of the samples of imported coconut oil that were subjected to tests, to the Director-General (DG) of Customs yesterday.

State Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna stated that as confirmed by the DG of the SLSI, all imported coconut oil samples were rejected due to their substandard quality.

The imported coconut oil samples tested by the SLSI contained Aflatoxins, which are poisonous carcinogens that are produced by certain moulds which grow in soil, decaying vegetation, hay, and grains.
