Workshop on agricultural water productivity opens in Colombo

A workshop organized by the Asian Productivity Organization (APO) and the Ministry of Agriculture on Innovation Technology to promote the agricultural water productivity commenced Monday (July 23) at the Berjaya hotel in Mount Lavinia.

Representatives of 15 APO member countries including Bangladesh, Cambodia, Taiwan, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Iran, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, The Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam attended the workshop inaugurated under the patronage of Secretary to the Agriculture Ministry B. Wijeratne.

The workshop aims to introduce modern agricultural techniques for better management of water resources to benefit farmers, promote better water supply schemes beneficial to farming, increase the efficiency and productivity of water use and increase use of digital technology.

Secretary to the Agriculture Ministry B. Wijeratne speaking at the workshop said the government has taken a number of positive measures to increase the income levels of the farming community through the agricultural sector in Sri Lanka.

The Sri Lankan Government also hopes to share the experience of the APO countries attending the workshop to promote agriculture in the country.
