Modi meets Sunak at G20 Summit
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi today met his United Kingdom counterpart Rishi Sunak after assuming office for the first time on the sidelines of the 17th edition of the G20 Summit.
In October, Modi and Sunak spoke on the phone and emphasized the importance of an early conclusion of “a balanced and comprehensive” Free Trade Agreement between the two countries.
UK to hike taxes in Thursday’s Budget
Britain will on Thursday hike taxes and slash public spending in a government budget signalling a return to austerity despite millions suffering a cost-of-living crisis in an economy facing recession.
“We will be asking everyone for sacrifices,” Finance minister Jeremy Hunt said, stressing however that the pain would fall disproportionately on the better off.

Gross domestic product (GDP) fell by an annualised 1.2% in the three months to the end of September. However, economists expect the world’s third biggest economy to avoid recession as it bounces back this year.
