Alleged Canadian serial killer charged in death of a Sri Lankan man

Suspected Canadian serial killer has been charged with an eighth murder after the police have identified remains of a Sri Lankan man believed to have been murdered by the suspect.

Suspected Toronto serial killer Bruce McArthur. 66, was charged on Monday with the eighth count of first degree murder in the death of Kirushna Kumar Kanagaratnam, 37, BBC reported.

Police identified the Sri Lankan man Monday after his dismembered body was found in a potted plant connected to McArthur, Toronto Police Detective Sgt. Hank Idsinga said Monday.

In March, Toronto police released a photo of a bearded man who they believed was a deceased victim of McArthur and asked for help identifying him. Police identified the man Monday as Kirushna Kumar Kanagaratnam, who had arrived in Canada in 2010 and lived in the Toronto area.

Police believe Kanagaratnam was killed sometime between 3 September and 14 December 2015.

The identification of Kanagaratnam was confirmed with assistance from an international government agency, Idsinga said.

Toronto police detective Hank Idsinga said on Monday that Kanagaratnam’s direct family, who live in Sri Lanka, were informed over the weekend of his death.

The detective did not reveal Kanagaratnam’s immigration status and said he had never been reported missing in Canada.
