Sri Lanka Army said it has made arrangements to erect the first-ever Vesak pandal in Malaysia on account of the forthcoming Vesak season, in an attempt to show the glamour and significance of Vesak spirits to Malaysians.
The Army said a group of Corps of Engineer Services (CES) troops according to the directions of the Commander of the Army will begin the erection of the historic structure in Kuala Lumpur shortly.

Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake during his visit to Malaysia from April 16-19 to attend the 16th edition of the Defense Services Asia (DSA) Exhibition – 2018 and its Conference met with the chief monks of the Buddhist temples in Kuala Lumpur.
The Army Commander visited the Brickfield Buddhist temple in Kuala Lumpur and inquired into the progress of the project of erecting the first-ever Vesak pandal.
The Chief Incumbent of the temple in his meeting with the commander praised the supply of Army expertise and the manpower for erection of the 60 feet tall Vesak pandal with thousands of multi-colored illuminations.
The Thera also appreciated the support of the Army for a mega responsibility of this nature in a foreign land which is largely occupied by non-Buddhists.
The Army Commander has also paid a visit to the Sentul Buddhist Temple and met the incumbent in the temple.
