Special HC to continue case against Gotabhaya Rajapaksa when returned to the country after receiving medical treatments

The special Permanent High court yesterday decided to take up the case against former Defense Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapakse and 7 other defendants.

The Attorney appeared on behalf of the former Defense Secretary, informed the court that as Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has had a heart surgery, he needs to stay abroad for six weeks.

The former Defense Secretary was granted permission by the court to receive medical treatments in between the 2nd and the 19th of June.

Former Defense Secretary and six others including former Chairman and members of the director board of the Land Reclamation and Development Corporation (LRDC) are charged with misappropriating Rs. 81.3 million of public money for the construction of the Medamulana DA Rajapaksa Memorial Museum during Mahinda Rajapaksa regime.

When the case against Gotabhaya Rajapakse was taken up before the trial at Bar on Wednesday, his Attorney at-law Ali Sabry said that his client has surgery on the 31st of May at a Singaporean hospital.

Though Rajapakse has already been discharged from the hospital, he needs to rest several weeks under the medical advice, the court told.

The Attorney informed the court that his client is scheduled to return to the country on the 24th of July, Accordingly, the special high court permitted Gotabhaya Rajapakse to stay in overseas till the 24th of next month.
