The fare of private buses will not be hiked under any circumstances, stated the Minister of Passenger Transport Management Mahinda Amaraweera.
Previously, Private Bus Owners charged that they are suffering from losses as the government has imposed a new regulation that buses can transport passengers only up to the number of seats available.
Therefore, they made a request to the government to increase the normal bus fare charges by 1.5 percent, similar to the fare charged by semi-luxury buses.
However, the Minister said that there will be no such increase in the bus fares.
Amaraweera further said that if the current income of the private bus owners is not sufficient, alternative measures will be taken to resolve that issue.
