Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi informed the Parliament that families of Covid-19 victims must pay for the coffins.
She made the statement in response to a question raised by SJB MP Mujibar Rahman.
MP Rahman claimed that a sum of Rs 58,000 was from a family to cremate a person who died in IDH hospital yesterday.
The Health Minister said that if a family faces any difficulties the Government will look for a sponsor.
