Police introduce new emergency hotline to report child labour; update on special operation

The Sri Lanka Police have introduced a new emergency hotline at the Colombo to provide information  regarding where children have been employed as domestic aides.

The Police urged the public to contact 01112433333 if they have any information about children under 16 employed in child labour.

A special operation was launched by the Police on Tuesday (27 July) in Colombo City to trace children under the age of 16 who are employed as domestic workers, while the operation will continue for the second day today (28 July).

The operation was launched after information had been received that several underage children from the hill country were being brought for employment to Colombo and suburbs, Sri Lanka Police said.

According to Police Media Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana two police teams have been deployed to conduct inspections at certain locations.
