Sri Lanka military releases 29 acres of land to the public in the North

Sri Lanka Army accommodating the concerns of the public and local politicians in the area has released another 29 acres of land to the public in the North.

Commander Security Forces (Jaffna) Major General Dharshana Hettiarachchi handed over the land to the Jaffna District Secretary, Mr. N. Vethanayahan at a ceremony at Ottampalam, Vasuvillan in Jaffna, yesterday.

The event was organized jointly by Ministry of National Integration and Reconciliation, Ministry of Prison Reforms, Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Religious Affairs, District Secretariat for Jaffna.

The land includes the buildings belongs to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church (St. Mary’s Church) and Roman Catholic Tamil Mix School (RCTMS) which was located inside the Palaly Army Cantonment during the time of conflict.

This is another initiative taken by Sri Lanka Army to expedite the process of releasing lands in accordance with the policy on Resettlement of IDPs, as a matter of priority towards reconciliation whilst addressing the issues of civilians in Jaffna, the Army said.

Religious dignitaries, senior military Officers, Government officials, soldiers and civilians were present at the event.
