Health authorities have decided to introduce a special test that would allow individuals to get tested for HIV at home.
According to the Director of the National STD / AIDS Prevention Unit, Dr. Sisira Liyanage, a pilot project of the HIV home-test would be conducted next year, in Colombo and its suburbs.
According to Dr. Liyanage, the HIV home test would allow for HIV positive patients who fail to visit clinics, to be identified.
The doctor further added, 270 HIV positive patients have been discovered during clinical examinations thus far.
