A burglar has died after being assaulted by a cricket bat.
The suspect had broken into the house in Averiwatta Road in Wattala at 04.30 am Saturday (09 July), the Police said.
Upon admission to the Ragama Hospital, the suspect was pronounced dead, the Police stated.
The deceased has been identified as a 32-year-old resident of Kekirawa.
Investigations launched by the Wattala Police have revealed that the suspect had been involved in 24 burglaries in Kadawatha, Kiribathgoda, and Wattala.
The Magisterial inquest has been conducted, while a PCR test and a postmortem examination will be conducted today, said the Police.
