Cabinet nod to allocate Rs. 26 billion to set up technology faculties at universities

With the introduction of the technology stream for GCE advanced level, technology faculties will be established at several universities in the country to offer degree programs in technology.

Accordingly, the government has allocated a sum of Rs. 26.4 billion for the development of the physical and human resources required for new degree programs in Technology subjects at the universities.

The University Grant Commission has identified ten universities in the country to set up technology faculties.

Accordingly, three technology faculties will be established at the University of Kelaniya, Rajarata and Sabaragamuwa and a Faculty of Engineering at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura is planned to be established.

The cabinet of ministers has approved a proposal made by the Higher Education and Cultural Affairs Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe to allocate Rs. 26,400 million for the development of the physical and human resources required for new Degree Programs in Technology subjects in the 2018-2023 time period.
