A Chinese ship has arrived in Sri Lanka to remove the X-Press Pearl ship that sank off the coast of Sri Lanka.
The Marine Environmental Protection Authority (MEPA) said that the ship, which arrived in Sri Lanka on a notice issued by the ship’s insurance company, was studying the removal of the ship in an area about a kilometre from the sinking area.
Currently it is clearing some containers from the X-press Pearl which spilled on the seabed.
The trustees of the X-press Pearl ship will bear the cost and the Maritime Environmental Protection Authority will regulate the work.
