The Officer is said to have fallen ill while exercising at the Galle Face Green in Colombo this morning.
The Police Media Unit said he was admitted to the Colombo National Hospital immediately after falling ill.
Hospital sources state that the OIC had died following his admission to the hospital.

Police Spokesman Ajith Rohana said that the OIC had received treatment for heart ailments and is suspected to have died due to a heart attack.
He also said that a post mortem will be conducted to ascertain the cause of death.
The deceased is a 43-year-old resident of Passara and a father of two, he added.
The cause of death is still to be confirmed.
