The Colombo Magistrate’s Court has granted permission to detain and interrogate 4 suspects, who were arrested on suspicion of engaging in extremist activities, for 90 days.
The suspects, taken into the custody of Welikada Police a few days ago, were produced before Colombo Additional Magistrate yesterday (07).
Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte Municipal Council member Haja Mohideen Ali Usmani also is also among the four suspects.
The four suspects are in connection with the National Thowheed Jamaath, the extremist organisation responsible for the Easter Sunday terror attacks which killed over 250 civilians, the police told the court.
The police further said a cache of sharp knives and swords were found on the suspects during the arrest.
Accordingly, Colombo Additional Magistrate Kanchana de Silva delivered a 90-day detention order and ordered the police to produce the suspects before the court on 29th of May.
