Fonseka threatens to quit

Wildlife Minister, Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka has threatened to resign from his portfolio if President Maithripala Sirisena does not fulfill his promise.

Fonseka and his Deputy Minister Palitha Thewarapperuma have threatened to resign from their portfolios if the President fails to provide a suitable land to contain the two wild elephants in the Sinharaja Forest Reserve.

Fonseka’s move to relocate the two wild elephants in the Sinharaja Forest Reserve was halted by the President following protests by environmentalists that the relocation would result in the forest reserve being removed from the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
