SLFP General Secretary, Minister Duminda Dissanayake says that people should not abuse freedom of expression to promote hate speech and other forms of extremism.
Dissanayake has told the media that he condemns the violation of the free media granted by the government by certain sections in social media.
He has explained that some social media website operators were engaged in publishing false news with the intention of blackmailing persons being accused into advertising with the relevant website.
“These actions cannot be condoned,” the Minister has said.
According to Dissanayake, the government did not have any intention of continuously blocking social media networks.
