Chairman of the National Geological Survey and Mines Bureau (GSMB), Anura Walpola reported a magnitude 5.0 tremor that had occurred in the Indian Ocean, 1200 km south of Sri Lanka at 06:43 PM on Monday (16 Aug) evening.
Sri Lanka will not be impacted by tremor, he noted.
