The Government has taken steps to declare July 25 as a special day for dengue mosquito control.
On that day, the staff of Government and Private institutions should identify mosquito-breeding places inside and outside the institution where they work for one hour, destroy them and plan to keep the environment clean in the future.
Director General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardena said that this day was announced to prevent the spread of dengue disease in a high epidemic situation. For the control of dengue disease, a Committee should be appointed under a responsible officer in each institution to supervise the work and in case of need for technical support, get that support from the local health medical officers.
He said that more than 8,000 dengue infected people have been reported in the 20 days since the beginning of this month and more than 43,000 infected people have been reported since the beginning of this year.
According to surveys, government and private institutions, schools, construction sites, factories and other public places have been identified as places where the risk of mosquito breeding is high.
