The UK medicines regulator has approved the Oxford/AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine.
The first batches of vaccine are already in the UK and more will be made in the country’s factories.
The UK has ordered 100 million doses, of which 4 million are expected to be available within the next few days.
The vaccine would be available for those at the highest risk of Covid-19, the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) said on Wednesday (Dec 30), while announcing the approval of the vaccine.
The UK health secretary, Matt Hancock, has said the approval signals a “route out” of the coronavirus pandemic.
