Justice Minister Dr. Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe told Parliament yesterday (22) that the Prime Minister and Opposition Leader and relevant other leaders should discuss and take a final decision regarding the Easter Sunday attack.
The Minister said that the Easter attack has been continuously talked about for four years now, but steps should be taken to take a final decision regarding it and as a country it is regrettable in this regard.
The minister said this during the adjournment debate on the Easter Sunday attacks. The minister further said that even after four and a half years, they are still debating how to mete out justice and how to ensure national security. On the one hand, this situation is regrettable as a country.
On November 18, 2016, I made a statement in this House about the country’s security. I opposed the IGP that day. I have no personal grudge with him. I also protested the appointment of the then Defence Secretary. ISIS I stated that there was a threat. I made that statement in Parliament. After making that statement, there was no victim like me in this incident. After making that statement, I was insulted for 29 months. After a while I became independent.
The current President asked me to accept this Ministry. I accepted this position because I had the ability to do so. The B report of this attack was not submitted within 24 hours. This incident did not come to court until five or six days had passed. There was ample evidence to cast doubt on Saharan. He first hit the Kanttankudi mosque.
The Malalgoda committee is an informal committee. Therefore, a Commission was appointed under the chairmanship of Janak de Silva, Judge of the Court of Appeal at that time. 100 kilos of C4 were found in Vanathavilluwa. More equipment was found. I think that the officials who investigated it did not deal with it. Even when the Mawanella Buddha statue was broken, it is a problem whether it was dealt with properly. I do not know how what is said in this Parliament will affect the current proceedings.
Recently, Channel Four appeared. I have no confidence in the credibility of this channel. This channel gave wrong information about our country to the international community. Former Attorney General Dappula de Livera was there. They said that together they have withdrawn this case. That is an unfair statement. There was no conspiracy here. Resignation is done in good faith.
It is inappropriate to make false allegations to court without any basis. This Easter attack continues to be discussed. A proper examination should be done and this should be concluded. 42 cases have been filed. These should be examined without delay. Inciting racism and bigotry is done when an election is near. It does not matter if it is Sinhala or Tamil. When an election is near, great efforts are made to get Sinhala votes, Buddhist votes and Christian votes. For that, one topic at a time is taken and discussed in society.
