Political stability essential for country now – Vidura

National Heritage, Performing Arts and Rural Arts Promotion State Minister Vidura Wickramanayake on Saturday said a suspicion has arisen whether a conspiracy is being hatched to topple the government which would result in making the country unbalanced politically as well.

He said that, if we are to overcome the economic crisis which the country is facing, it is essential to maintain political stability.

He said a certain group of people have realized this and as an initial step towards making the country unstable, an attempt is being made to create a background of political instability.

The State Minister was speaking at a media briefing in Kandy on Saturday.

He also said that within alliances and fronts there are parties and groups with various opinions gathered together. They all have their own ideologies. At the same time, they have political activities as well.

As the main party, the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna should have the ability to collect together all these party organizations and individuals on behalf of the people and the country and go on this journey.

Without that, accusing and finding fault with each other and pointing out shortcomings on a journey will mean the country will be led into anarchy.

We are in a crisis situation and that we are facing an economic crisis is not a secret either. If a political crisis is forcibly created at this moment of time, what will happen to the country and its people.

He said that political stability is a prerequisite, if the country wants to overcome challenges ahead of the country. “The problem of fertilizer turned into a crisis. I too have a problem who is providing advice on this issue. It was due to foolish decisions made by certain people, that Gazette Notifications had to be reversed. This business of reversing began from the time of the rice problem. Once a decision is made, if the government is trying to change it or withdraw it, it becomes extremely difficult. There should be flexibility.
