The Office of Speaker of Parliament Karu Jayasuriya says the reports of spending a huge sum for the grand opening of parliament next month are totally false.
Issuing a media statement, the Speaker’s Office said reports published quoting some parties that the parliament is planning to spend a huge amount of money for a grand opening of the session on May 8th after the President prorogued the parliament have come to the attention of the office.
“We strongly emphasize that the information is completely false and there is no truth in them,” the statement said.
The new session of the parliament will commence on May 8th ceremoniously after the lunch and the parliament will not spend any money for food and drinks.
The parliament will spend the same amount for the session on that day as for any other normal day, the statement added.
