Sea Street jewelry businessman attacks another businessman with a machete

The owner of a gold jewelry store on Sea Street, Pettah has forcefully entered the jewelry store of another individual and had attacked him with a machete last morning.

The Police said the injured businessman is currently receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Colombo National Hospital.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the two businessmen are millionaires and had been friends for a long time, after which a brawl had broken out due to a dispute.

The Police said the suspect had taken the 2 ½ foot machete in a covered polythene bag and had attacked the victim inside his store at around 10.20 am yesterday.

Four employees of the store and a female customer who were inside the store at the time of the attack are reported to have shouted and exited the shop.

The suspect is said to have walked out of the store with the bloodied weapon and gotten into a three-wheeler, after which he had arrived at the Police station to surrender.

The Police said the victim has sustained serious injuries to his hands and head in the attack.

The incident has been captured on the CCTV cameras installed at the jewelry store, while the suspect will be produced before the court today.
